Just watched that “30 Days” episode you described. What a great way to gain empathy and to expose some troubling challenges about living in poverty. Interestingly, nutrition wasn’t a big focus because they faced so many other challenges.

Thanks for the recommendation and glad you enjoyed reading about my experiment as well.

Cheers,
Andy

That should be “minimum-wage” not “minimum-wave”. I’ll blame the glass of wine on my desk!

Morgan Spurlock (of “SuperSize Me”) along with his fiance moved to an average town and tried to live on minimum-wave for 30 days. They rented a cheap apartment (which turned out to be infested with ants), got furniture at GoodWill, and found minimum wage jobs. No car — only public transit. She got a job as a dishwasher and he as a landscaping laborer.

Ultimately they failed to make it, simply because of health-care costs. With no health insurance, when he injured his arm and she got an infection, their Emergency Room visits broke the bank.

I think you can find this on Youtube if not elsewhere.

Anyhow, it struck me as a similar exercise in trying to understand how others live. Kudos to you for going through that.

There is plenty to think about here. Thank you so much for sharing with those of us who couldn’t participate.
